Welcome Letter - Canada Foods

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I am so pleased that you will be able to participate in this very special culinary-inspired tour of Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

As you will learn on your visit, agriculture and agri-food is one of Canada’s most dynamic and innovative industries which plays a huge role in the Canadian economy with nearly 2.1 million Canadians - farmers, suppliers, processors, restaurant workers, and others – that bring food to tables in Canada and around the world. Their work is responsible for making the agriculture and food sector one of Canada’s top five industries, accounting for one out of every eight jobs in the country.

Our products and ingredients are produced in a pristine environment and adhere to the highest safety standards in the world. Our farmers and processors are committed to healthy food choices and they have the know-how to bring a varied selection of foods to consumers’ tables. Add to that a large fertile land base and a cold winter climate that reduces pest and disease problems leading to a reduced dependency on chemicals which all leads to a strong natural crop each year. In addition, production of organic crops and products continues to grow. The end result: pure and healthy Canadian foods.

We want to show Germans the quality of our food and beverages. While you explore PEI and Quebec, you will learn about our production methods and have the opportunity to see what makes Canada a leader in producing a variety of high-quality, healthy, and safe ingredients. During your visit, you will experience true Eastern Canadian traditions through digging in the dirt for organic potatoes and learning how to harvest and shuck your own oysters. You will also have the opportunity to see maple production first hand in Canada’s maple syrup province of Quebec.

I hope that by the time you return to Germany, you will have a better understanding of the high-quality goods that Canada currently exports to Germany. As you enjoy Prince Edward Island and Quebec’s finest agriculture, gastronomy, hotels and attractions we know you will discover why so many people around the world are choosing Canadian when purchasing imported food and beverages.
