FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
190 injured and four dead every day in Canada drive MADD to promote safe and sober driving over the holiday season.
HALIFAX — Mothers Against Drunk Driving “Tie One on for Safety” with their upcoming Project Red Ribbon campaign to promote safe and sober driving. The campaign, which starts November 1, will run until January 3 and aims to distribute four million red ribbons nationally to inform the public about the dangers of impaired driving.
“We would like to see HRM residents get involved in the fight against impaired driving.” Says Anissa Aldridge, President of MADD Halifax Regional Chapter. “As a parent of a child injured by an impaired driver and as a teacher, I know education is a key to making a difference. I believe that together we can stop impaired driving, one step at a time.”
This year MADD impresses the importance of safe and sober driving through the use of the red ribbons to help remind people of a personal pledge that they will stay safe and help keep others safe this holiday season. The ribbons let people know that Canada is serious about the already significant threat of driving under the influence. Over the holiday season, MADD urges those who live in the Halifax area to help remove impaired driving as the number one criminal cause of death in Canada by calling 911 if they see drivers who they think are driving impaired.
Aldridge states, “By displaying the MADD Canada red ribbon, you make a personal commitment to driving sober.” She says that the red ribbon should be worn and seen as a tribute to honor the 4 Canadians who die and the 190 who are injured every day due to impaired driving crashes.
